Dingcheng District of Changde City sits at the side of the Dongting Lake, covering low mountains and hills at 100 to 300 altitudes. Thanks to the moist and rainy climate, plentiful surface water in forms of rivers and lakes, and sufficient sunlight here, Dingcheng becomes a most suitable place for oil-seed camellia growing. Since ancient times, it has boasted rich wide camellias.
Dingcheng Tea Oil is featured with purity, and high content of oleic acid and linoleic acid which is essential to human health. It is also high in 12 microelement including Se, Fe, and Ca. The monounsaturated oleic acid composition exceeds 90.1%. It thus enjoys a title "Oil of Longevity".
Dingcheng District is a national demonstration county (region) and provincial key county (region) for oil-seed camellia production. It has over 3015 hectares of oil-seed camellia planting area, producing more than 10000 ton of camellia seeds and 4000 ton of tea oil annually. As a major industry in the District, Dingcheng tea oil has been on sale in more than 20 provinces and municipals nationwide, and exported to Southeast Asia, Europe, and America through mail order or e-commerce.
Dingcheng Tea Oil was approved by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) as the first National Geographical Indication Product in Dingcheng District in December 2016.
